"I had not thought that a word game could be so beautiful. Beautiful to see and hear, but also the stern, unyielding beauty of logic." - Matt Thrower, GameZebo

"Another week, another new word game. QatQi...is, if anything, better than Letterpress." -- Shane Richmond, The Telegraph

"COMPELLING" ... "It’s a very simple idea, but a good one. QatQi offers a different type of word game challenge, and flourishes for it. All the better for being free to download, and exceptionally easy to dive into for short or long sessions." - Jennifer Allen, 148Apps

"Just when you think there cant be much more new ground to be broken in the word-games genre, along comes something like QatQi with an inventive take on letter-based puzzling." - The Guardian

Lose yourself in the world of QatQi (pronounced “cat-key”), a gorgeous and meticulously crafted word game that pleases the senses and tests the limits of your lexicon. Frustrated with the lack of innovation in other word games, indie designer Chris Garrett developed QatQi to freshen up the genre with never-before-seen gameplay, an elegant interface, dazzling art, and otherworldly music that changes as you play. In a word, it’s INSPIRED (161 points.)

QatQi offers more than just laying down tiles and reaping the rewards. Game puzzles form a “map” for players to explore, uncovering bonuses and avoiding barriers as they link letters together. It’s easy to learn, but offers a new kind of strategic depth for the genre. Bolstered by robust statistics and enticing social features, QatQi is a complete package for word game lovers eager for something new.

Beyond the innovations in gameplay and scoring, QatQi is an audiovisual tour de force with art and music that can be appreciated even without words. The game’s puzzles will have you racking your brain, but its ethereal aesthetics will leave you in a state of zen.
QatQi features:

Novel “map” mechanics — Explore each puzzle by laying out tiles to spell words across increasingly intricate rooms and corridors. Special squares offer big bonuses, but require some smooth wordsmithing to reach.

Smart, scaling difficulty — Sunday levels can be brutal, but QatQi eases players in with simple puzzles and an intuitive tutorial. If you’re backed into a corner — sometimes literally — take another try with an Undo.

Size up your spelling — Compare your performance with players in your city or across the globe using QatQi’s cater-made scoring system. Post automatically and view full breakdowns — all without disruptive logins or passwords.

Vaunt your vocab — When you top the charts in your area or drop a high-scoring word like MOUNTAINEERING (461 points), QatQi will make a personally framed screenshot for you to boast over Facebook, Twitter, email or SMS — all from within the game.

Data to die for — To boost your scores, explore a beautiful interactive stats page that provides key metrics after each puzzle. Even as a novice word-slinger, QatQi’s granular breakdowns will give you something to aim for.

Fresh content, always — QatQi offers new levels every day of the week, scaling up in difficulty from Monday to Sunday. Past levels are archived for access anytime.

Audiovisual bliss — Artist Kun Chang, who created the artwork for the hit game Osmos, lends a striking sensibility to the game board and menus. Complementing the looks is an original, spectral score that builds in complexity as you move through more difficult puzzles.

Pros and cons of QatQi app for iPhone and iPad

QatQi app good for

Highly addicting. Love the improvements since playing it years ago! Challenging and fun!
Sort of a scrabble solitaire. The challenge is to fit words within the series of shapes. I like the music - and I usually dont. I like the game because I can put it down - use it as a break - without it being addicting.
I love this game, no negatives, its great if you love word games.
This app is a definite keeper. Fun and challenging, it is one of my favorite apps to pass time while traveling or at home.
An Amazing Find! So unique & a fun to play. Scrabble meets puzzler meets logic rolled into one. Wish there was a way to sync progress thru social media to play on multiple devices & compare scores with friends but certainly not a deal breaker! GREAT GAME!
I love word games and try new ones all the time, but the majority get deleted within a week. This is one of the very few that remain on my device and that Ive had for the longest.

Some bad moments

One of my top top games - a fantastic game that I truly live and thoroughly enjoy. That said - it's just broken. it's frozen with two and a half words of a new game - and no letters below - sometimes, I can see "254 letters remaining" but nothing else. Black screen, 2.5 words, rest of GUI is MIA missing in action. What is wrong? Restarting my phone did NOT fix it. I don't want to reinstall & lose three years of progress. HELP
Was a great game for the first few levels...then the charges come. The instructions bait you into using "undos" (by saying "all the best players use lots of undos during their turns") and then when you get used to using them you suddenly have to pay for them. Would much rather just pay $.99 upfront for the game than have them bait me with recurring charges of $1.99 for "undo" packages. Thats just sheisty, IMO. Wont be playing this again unfortunately.
The game is excellent and challenging, but it doesnt work really stable. Update is urgently requiried.
Their choice to make undos slow to renew makes the game either frustrating to play - you have to wait hours to get enough. Or you have buy them from them. It is a beautiful and fun game but not worth dishing out money for over and over. Without a purchase option it is getting deleted.
EDITED 04/01/15 Ive tried changing my rating to one star, but it keeps reverting to 5 stars. This is one of my favourite games ever, but its been ruined by floating ads that obstruct play and cannot be dismissed until you watch an ad. Makes the game unplayable, as far as Im concerned. Super disappointing, especially since Ive already sunk about $25 into the game buying undos and power tiles. Old review: This is a great, thoughtful game that is beautifully drawn and expertly executed.
My favorite. Dont like the moving tiles though. Very distracting.
